Holiday Celebrations Around the KL Network

Holiday Celebrations Around the KL Network

Campuses from around the KL Network celebrated the Christmas holiday in style!

St. Mary’s Zhengzhou

At the St. Mary’s Zhengzhou campus, students showcased their talents for the audience.

To start off the festivities and set the holiday atmosphere, students Vivian and Michelle performed “When Christmas Comes to Town” for the audience.

St. Mary’s Zhengzhou even has a comedian in the student body. Tom performed stand-up comedy and drew praise from the parents in the crowd. Following the stellar performance of Tom came the hip-hop dance styles of Kirsty, Phyllis, Leo, Jessie, Judith, Belinda, and more. They took to the stage with a choregraphed performance to show off their moves. Wendy performed her own dance – Latin style – boldly taking the stage alone to gracefully float across the floor. Alice performed Justin Bieber’s “Mistletoe”, drawing from the soul of the Bieb’s sultry voice to deliver the song with power.

The show finished with a performance from a small group of Tae Kwon Do students – children of attending parents.

KL International School

KLIS hosted it’s first Christmas event with students, parents and staff in attendance. The event focused on student performances, where students sang traditional Christmas songs such as “Deck the Halls”, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”, “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas”, “Frosty the Snowman”, and more!

Parents and the community supported the students as they performed. For many students, this was the first time they had sung Holiday songs in English, especially in front of a large crowd! Students overcame the language barriers as well as the butterflies in their stomach to deliver the performance. Even students as young as 4 years old had the lyrical chops to dazzle the audience.

After the performance, a very special visitor came to see the students. Jolly Ol’ Saint Nicholas himself showed up to greet the students and hand out presents to the students. Saint Nick’s schedule is busy these days, so we were glad to have him on campus for the short time – and the kids were more than eager to get their presents.

St. Mary’s Wuhan

St. Mary’s Wuhan celebrated Christmas as you would back in the US: movies, music, food, and fun. Students came prepared dressed in red and green and were met by some special guests. Graduates from last year now studying abroad and currently on winter break stopped by the school to greet the students and teachers. They joyously joined in St. Mary’s Wuhan’s activities, which included viewings of and analysis of Christmas classics: Home Alone 1, Home Alone 2, and ELF. While watching, students enjoyed Christmas treats.

Students also performed some non-traditional Christmas carols. 10th grade students performed Matthew Hall and Meagan Moore’s “When Christmas Comes to Town” followed by the 11th grade’s singing of Wham!’s and the late George Michael’s “Last Christmas”. To finish it off, 10th and 11th grade students came together to sing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”.

To finish out the day, St. Nick made the tiring journey using his aqua sled from Chongqing up the Yangzte river to Wuhan to pass out some gifts to the students.

St. Mary’s Shanghai

Santa made his final stop in Shanghai after his long tour around the country! Luckily the students at St. Mary’s Shanghai prepared some cookies for tired ole Santa. Teacher Paul Macleod was seen dressed in holiday garb preparing cookies, and students worked like elves to get the batch ready for Santa’s arrival.

Before the Christmas celebration, which included breakdancing, dancing, and some disco lights, Santa passed out sugar filled candies to the students. Students also received secret Santa gifts from all.

Then the celebration was on…
